3 tips that helped me
I don’t know about you, but I never thought much about how I sound on the phone. Sure, when I got my first cell phone after University, I would get telemarketers call me, a phone I paid for, and ask to speak to my parents. I chalked it up to part of the charm of a telemarketer. It wasn’t until I started my role as a recruiter that I learned, not only did I sound like a 5-year-old on the phone, but people were probably not taking me seriously because of it! Here I was trying to offer them the job offer of a lifetime, but they can’t hear me because I sound like a kid!
Something had to be done, so I started listening to my colleagues and to the advice they would give candidates when they interview.
I learned that I had to drop my voice, turns out, my pitch and tone was too high. Here are the 3 tips I learned that helped me that I still give to candidates when they have a phone interview:
1. Stand up
When you stand up to speak, your voice travels better and you naturally sound more confident. This helps in sales and definitely in a phone interview.
2. Enunciate and slow down
