How to Actually Research a Company for an Interview
5 things to look into
I get asked this a lot, how do you actually research a company? There is so much information out there, what is relevant and what is not?
You definitely need to research a company to show you interest in the interview and ask smart questions. I have clients who passed on the most qualified candidates because they could not answer the question, “So, what do you know about us?”
To make sure you do not miss this question again, here are the top 5 things to research before you interview:
1. Company website
Look at what they do, who their clients are, what they are about — mission statement, core values, etc. How do you align with these? What is unique about them?
2. Press Releases and general website search
Pop the company name into Google and see what shows up, recent news and industry updates are valuable here. Have they won any awards recently? Brownie points for mentioning those in passing!
3. For publicly traded companies, you may want to look into their quarterly and annual call logs. This gives you really good insights about management and their outlook. If you have time, you can even go back in time and see how…
